ROSE ALI IDABENI.
DIRECTOR
My name is Rose Ali Idabeni. I was born on 26th October, 1985. As someone born into a christian family I grew up with christian values.
I completed Walewale Senior High School and proceeded for a Diploma course in Teaching.

During my schooling period, I developed a passion to help needy children especially orphans. I had the opportunity at the beginning of 2011 when I established this orphanage.

Meeting with community people

Bugya-kura (where the project is situated) was chosen because it is a community where most people lack proper education.
The school was started in October, 2010 with only 8 orphans and 21 other children who visit our school.

As for now, the children are 36 (12 children are living in the orphanage and the other 24 have relatives who are able to give them a home, but can't afford their school fees, so they get free education at our school).

The number of people working in the orphanage are 3 including myself. Thus, 1 care-giver (teacher) and a cook. These workers are paid by me.

Our orphanage faces a lot of challenges including, feeding,  clothing, health insurance levy, electricity, transportation means, teaching and learning materials, permanent housing and so on.

Feeding has been our main problem since the number of orphans has increased. We also face difficulty in giving quality health care since the Walewale district hospital lies 8 kilometres from the project and we rely on a bike which is our only vehicle.

But we have been trying to make things better, we have been  writing to individuals, organisations and diverse institutions for help. The few answers we have ever got improved things but not in a permanent way.

Eventhough, we have limited resources but we practice subsistence/peasant agriculture. Thus, cultivation of maize and beans to feed the children.

There is no government school in the community, where the project is situated so more and more children are being registered in our school. For this reason, we would like to expand our educational infrastructure to offer the orphans better basic education since most of the children cannot speak English language.

We are therefore, making a passionate appeal to any individual, organisation and institution who can help us in any way.
